The Mobile Experience

Session Description
This course focuses on understanding WCAG and usability issues for people with disabilities when it comes to mobile technology. It includes preliminary accessibility testing on participants’ mobile phones to bring home the impact of inaccessible apps, websites, and documents. This is important to bear in mind that manual testing is essential to ensuring your organization’s digital products are usable by people with disabilities. An accessible website and accessible documents can provide privacy, security, and independence to users with disabilities.
Making your digital products accessible is the best practice and requirement in many countries including, Australia. Participants in this course will gain an insight into how people with disabilities use mobile technology and how to test for issues that may hinder that experience
To achieve this, technical tools and a variety of options are discussed in achieving specific accessibility goals. Hands-on practice and group discussions help reinforce the content learned in the theory sections of this course.
Using a Screen Reader – NVDA

This course focuses on using a screen reader, Non-Visual Desktop Access (NVDA) for preliminary accessibility testing of web pages and documents. This is important to bear in mind that manual testing is essential to ensuring your organization’s digital products are usable by people with disabilities. An accessible website and accessible documents can provide privacy, security, and independence to users with disabilities.
Making your digital products accessible is the best practice and requirement in many countries including, Australia. Participants in this course will gain an insight into how to use NVDA as a tool to help ensure usability by users who rely on screen readers and other assistive technology. The principles learned will apply to other screen readers.

To achieve this, technical tools and a variety of options are discussed in achieving specific accessibility goals. Group discussions help reinforce the content learned in the theory sections of this course.
